I have shows on Create & Craft today at 9am, 1pm and 8pm with the fabulous Paper Cuts Word Edgers. I hope you can tune in. There are repeats during the day on Craft Extra.

Here’s today’s card –

Paper Cuts Good Luck Bargello

The background on this one is really cool – it takes a while to do but I find it quite relaxing. Sue Wilson taught me this years ago – it’s called the Bargello Technique and is another that the peeps who attended Phill’s Craftathon last weekend had a go at.

I am planning on demoing this and have lots of pre-prepped bits so hopefully I’ll get it all done.

So, I started by creating 3 backgrounds on 3 pieces of A5 Coconut White Card

Bargello backgrounds Pixie Powders Intense Pigment Stains

The one of the left – few drops of Forest Green Intense Pigment Stain in a mister bottle with water, misted and then blotted with Kitchen Roll.

The one in the middle – Mango Blaze Pixie Powder sprinkled over and misted with my mister from the first one above. Left to dry.

The one on the right – Teal Wash, Peacock Green and Pale Olive Pixie Powders sprinkled over and then misted with water. Bubble wrap pressed into it and left to dry. Bubble wrap removed once dry (couple of hours).

I cut all my backgrounds up into 2cm wide strips and glued them to a piece of Copy Paper, alternating the strips.

This makes a great background as it is!

I turned my background lengthways and cut it again into 2cm strips. I glued these strips to another piece of Coconut White Card, offsetting the strips so that the pattern squares stepped down each time as shown.

I actually got enough for 2 card backgrounds from this piece and a couple of strips left over that I can use on another card at some point.

I matted a piece onto Black Card and Coconut White Card. I cut the Good Luck Edger out of Black Card and glued to my background. I cut it again out of Coconut White Card nad paper pieced the waste back in.

You can take this background technique a step further and run it through an Embossing Folder if you wish.
